Spiceworks
Spiceworks is a free IT management package. It will discover and inventory the devices on your network, track your helpdesk calls, alert you to problem conditions (Full drives, low ink, etc.), and much more. The backend only runs on Windows (boo), but the frontend is a Ruby on Rails application, and the program will discover Mac, Unix, and Linux machines.
The product is ad-supported, but I have found the ads to be non-intrusive and IT relevant, so they haven’t been a real drawback.
Version 2.0 will be releasing this week, and it is expected to provide speed improvements and new features.
