They’re still missing a few bike paths in my neighborhood, but it’s a great start.
This app is pretty smart. Even in this early experimental release it’s already an improvement from the built-in contacts search. You can also use it to launch apps and browser bookmarks, which is a nice bonus.
Check out the BPW’s page for details on how to nominate Holland for gigabit Internet service from Google!
This is great. Now when I find a phone number online, I can just call it from whichever phone I want via the browser without having to transcribe it from the screen to the phone keypad.
Google Chrome is a quick, quick browser, but if you have it set to automatically detect your proxy settings, it can be IE6-slow to launch. Here’s how you fix it:
- Click the wrench menu.
- Select Options.
- Click the Under the Hood tab.
- In the ‘Network’ section, click the Change proxy settings button. This will open the ‘Internet Properties’ dialog box.
- Click the LAN settings button.
- Deselect the ‘Automatically detect settings’ checkbox.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Google has released a plugin for IE6+ that will run Chrome inside a frame, thereby allowing users to experience a modern browser and developers to quit coding for a woefully-nonextinct dinosaur.
Wow. This guy wrote a NES emulator in, get this, Javascript. Yes, Javascript. You’re going to want to give this a try using Chrome, though…the JS engines in other browsers will only give you about 5 frames per second (compared to 50+ using Chrome!).
Google Fast-flip is an attempt to bring the news-browsing speed and ease of print formats to the web. I don’t know if anyone will use it after the novelty wears off, but it’s interesting (and a little fun).
