Amazon responds to queries, blames a 'glitch'

As someone that is very familiar with computer glitches I can tell you that dropping all gay-related books from the sales rankings as “adult content” while leaving erotica untouched is not a glitch.  It’s censorship.  Amazon’s scurrying to cover their tracks now that it’s blown up on Twitter.

They just don’t get it. First amendment issues aside, any company that starts filtering their networks for copyrighted material will lose not just their common carrier status, but their customers as well.

Australian government announces mandatory internet filters to protect children

Ah yes, the dear children…so much freedom-robbing government censorship can be made to sound like a blessing when it’s done in the interest of the poor darlings. If it goes into effect without a fuss in Australia, you can bet that they will pander to “family values” again when they try it here.
