Why Microsoft must abandon Vista to save itself
After all the delays and all the hype, some users are so disappointed with Vista that they are switching back to XP in disgust. If SP1 doesn’t rectify the situation, Microsoft will be in a much worse position than they were the last time they released a steaming dung-pile of an OS. Back then, they had Windows 2000 available for business customers, XP ready to launch a year later, and no serious competition. Now, they have their corporate and consumer eggs in the Vista basket, no successor due within the near future, and (superior) viable alternatives that have already grabbed the geeks’ attention and are poised to take away significant chunks of market share.
UPDATE: MS announced today that they will be extending the sales availability of XP for five more months to June 30, 2008. I highly doubt that this will be the last extension.
