A Century of Bipartisan Tyranny →
This article describes perfectly why we need to ditch the two-party system if we want any chance of getting our country back: It should be abundantly clear that the left-right, Republican-Democrat dichotomy that we have been divided by over the past century has been one, vast Jedi mind trick. Over and over, the political ruling class has divided us with acrimony over meaningless, fringe issues...

Ubuntu Tip: Install Citrix Client in 64-bit Ubuntu...
First, go www.citrix.com to download the client (this page is current as of 23 April 2009). Then, follow the instructions here. If you receive an error regarding “echo_cmd” when you run the installer, see this page and then run sudo ln -s /usr/lib32/libXm.so.3 /usr/lib32/libXm.so.4 Now you can run wfcmgr and set up your connection!

This stuff is way easier in 32-bit (normal) Ubuntu… Grab the Flash 64-bit pre-release here. Open a console (Applications>Accessories>Terminal). Unzip the file: tar -xzf libflashplayer-10.0.22.87.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz (edit this line if your downloaded filename is different). Copy the file to the plugin location: sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ Restart...

Ubuntu Tip: Install Nvidia Driver in 64-bit Ubuntu...
When I started up my brand new install of 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04, the Nvidia drivers didn’t show up in the “Hardware Drivers” (aka “Restricted Drivers”) menu.  Here’s what I did to get the driver installed: Go to nvidia.com and download the latest version of the driver to your desktop. To install the driver, you’ll need to quit the graphical display: Log...

Oracle buys Sun; Now owns Java; Becomes a hardware... →
Just think of all of the products this will affect: MySQL, OpenOffice, Java, VirtualBox, and the Oracle DB are included among the ones that I use personally. This will also give Oracle the opportunity to provide a complete stack for their Oracle Database and Applications. I can’t say that I’d mind buying an Oracle Database that runs on an OS and hardware that are tweaked for database...

Amazon responds to queries, blames a 'glitch' →
As someone that is very familiar with computer glitches I can tell you that dropping all gay-related books from the sales rankings as “adult content” while leaving erotica untouched is not a glitch.  It’s censorship.  Amazon’s scurrying to cover their tracks now that it’s blown up on Twitter.

WIndows Tip: Verbose Boot Mode
If Windows is taking its time to start up or shut down, there might be a problem. To find out what’s going on, go to ‘HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System’, create a DWORD value called ‘verbosestatus’ and set it to 1. Restart your PC and Windows will tell you what it’s getting up to. (via 20 Registry Hacks to Make Your PC More...

I cannot say enough good things about virtualization in general, and VirtualBox in particular (VMware ESX rocks in the server room, but that’s another article).  If you’ve ever wanted to try out another operating system (Ubuntu Linux, perhaps) without reformatting your machine, or just want to be able to run apps from multiple operating systems simultaneously, this is for you.

Since Franklin Roosevelt, the Federal Government has grown far beyond the reaches of its constitutional authority.  States are starting to react.  Under the tenth amendment, the Federal government is only allowed to meddle in the affairs of states where that authority has been explicitly granted.  Unfortunately, for the past 80 years, Washington has been slowly and steadily creeping into more and...
