Consolidate Firefox's chrome →
This is a great tutorial about how you can hack Firefox to give you more screen real estate for, you know, actually viewing web pages. For example, you can get rid of the Help menu (who needs that, anyway?), the Edit menu (keyboard shortcuts are quicker), and the Home button (Alt-Home works just fine). With all that extra room, you can move the navigation bar up into the menu. And why would you...

Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest →
Honestly, this one’s not much different than a normal pale lager. It’s a bit spicy, but very light. It’s not a bad beer, but it’s not really a good Oktoberfest, either. If you’re going to try Leinie’s, get Red or Sunset Wheat instead.

Becks Oktoberfest →
Pours deep orange-amber, not much aroma. The taste is similar to the normal Beck’s brew, but this one is quite a bit sweeter and a little hoppier. It’s not exceptional, but definitely refreshing.

Sweet! I miss Thunderbird, but I didn’t miss it enough to try to mess around with POP…I need to read my Gmail from too many different machines for that to be feasible.

This smoked ale pours a dark amber-tinged ruby with a small head. Malty sweetness fades into a smoky coffee flavor. Moderately hoppy finish. Reminds me of some smoked porters I’ve had. Overall, a good brew.

60 grams of fat for breakfast! →
Hardee’s just unveiled a 920-calorie breakfast burrito with 60 grams of fat. This rounds out a menu which already features the 1420-calorie Monster Thickburger and the healthy choice, an 1100-calorie chicken salad. The combo comes with a XXXL t-shirt that reads: “I’m a fat dumbass.”

Nintendo to offer free Wii remote jackets →
Nintendo will be including Wii remote jackets with all new hardware, but is also offering to send them out free to those who purchased their Wii remotes prior to the change. Hopefully these are easier to remove than the third-party jackets I bought last year. I quit using them because it was a complete PITA to get them off to get at the batteries, and an even worse chore to get them back on.

This is great news…It’s nice to see that at least some of the folks in Redmond get it. I can’t remember the last time that MS did something cool two days in a row. UPDATE: Some folks in the Open Source community think that it’s a trap. I see their point.

Global Mac market share up to 6.6% for September... →
6.6% is still pretty small, but it’s 40% better than the 4.7% for the same month last year. By comparison, Vista is only a shade ahead at 7.4%. Windows’ marketshare is still a dominating 91%, but that is down from 94% a year ago. They aren’t in danger of losing their lead in the near future, but given the momentum that the challengers are currently enjoying and the way that...

Study: file-sharing leads to "chart churn," helps... →
But the rapid turnover on the Top 100 has had an unexpected side effect: more albums from the independent labels appear on the charts, and those that appear survive longer than they had before. Releases from indie labels are still at a disadvantage compared to those from the majors, but the gap between them appears to have narrowed. Those who predicted that file-sharing would help popularize more...

Put the digital download in your basket and see what happens. I’ve been hoping that this sort of business model...
